Hearn's residence at Ichigaya
Lafcadio Hearn moved from Kobe to Tokyo in 1896.
He lived at Ichigaya-Tomihisa-chô until 1902 and taught at the Imperial University of Tokyo.
The house no longer exists and only a monument remains. The notation "Here lived Lafcadio Hearn" was written by Edmund Blunden.
Today the monument is located inside the fence of Seijo-Gakuen Women's High School.
Access from Tokyo Station
Use Yamanote Line clockwise way (lane No. 5) to go to Shinjuku station.
At Shinjuku, take the bus for Mejiro Station or Nerima Shako from the west bus terminal and get off at the stop "Ichigaya Tomihisa-chô".
You can find the monument JUST BEHIND the police box located JUST IN FRONT of the bus stop.
