Grave of Lafcadio Hearn
Hearn's graveyard is in the Zôshigaya Cemetery. It is so simple and typical Buddhist style tombstone.
The central one is of Lafcadio Hearn, the left one is of his wife Setsu, and the right one is of Koizumi Family.
His Buddhist name is noted on the right side of this tombstone; Shô-gaku In-den Jô-ge Hachi-un Ko-ji, or "Believing Man Similar to Undefined Flower Blooming like Eight Rising Clouds, who dwells in Mansion of Right Enlightenment" (translation by AMENOMORI Nobushige, Hearn's friend lived in Yokohama, to whom he dedicated his book "Kokoro").
There are some other graves of famous people here in Zôshigaya, Natsume Sôseki, Nagai Kafû, Izumi Kyôka and others.
Access from Tôkyô Station

Use Yamanote Line anti-clockwise way (lane No. 4) to go to Ôtsuka station.
At Ôtsuka, transfer to Metropolitan Railway Arakawa Line to go to Zôshigaya station.
There is the gate of the Zôshigaya Cemetery just in front of the station. Entering the gate, go straight and turn right when you reach the pavement.
And turn left at the small sign noted
. And you can find Hearn's grave, a tombstone noted
within a minute.
